Hello Mann Park members!
On Saturday, April 30, we held our Opening Day celebration. It was great to reconnect with new and long standing members.
Our green looked very good, and Mike Skinner had initially given us the go-ahead for an afternoon draw. However, Mother Nature’s timing was a little off, and so it was decided to cancel bowling for the afternoon.
We were led around the green by our piper, Kenneth Wright.
Mayor Darryl Walker, our MLA Trevor Halford and his young daughter were in attendance for the ceremonial first bowl of the season. Other invited guests included WR President Gayle Saunders, Board members from Langley, Bev Styan and Glen McArthur.
Unfortunately Kerry-Lynne Findley had to cancel, as she was unable to get home from Ottawa in time, and Louise McKnight had an urgent real estate matter to deal with.
Our members who attended were very happy to socialize, given the lack of social events during the pandemic. Our delicious catered lunch was very well received, and there was plenty of food for everyone. Gaston did a great job of emceeing the event, thank you, Gaston!
On Friday night, 21 of our members came out to help clear the room. On Saturday morning, Tony Numans came early to put out the flags.
Gisele Essiambre did a lovely job of setting our tables. The room looked great!
Pat Macdonald, Christel Taylor, Gloria Woolfrey, Corrie Brawley and Bernice Day looked after the buffet and worked in the kitchen. Corrie also collected the tickets at the door.
Pat Edwards took charge of the raffle tickets for the Gift basket, which was donated by Oceana Parc. This raffle will run until October 1st.Linda Higgins was on hand to open the Bar, however, as we did not bowl because of the rain, the bar was not required.
After lunch, many hands made light work of moving the tables and chairs and putting the Montessori furniture back in place. All your help was very much appreciated!
A big thank you to the many members who made this a very successful event.
We are looking forward to a great summer and a busy bowling season,
See you on the green,
Your Mann Park Board
