BC Day fun

On August 5, 54 lawn bowlers celebrated BC Day at Mann Park with a blistering afternoon on the greens. Thank you to our event sponsor, CIBC Ocean Park for helping make the day enjoyable for everyone. CIBC is a new sponsor for Mann Park Lawn Bowling Club.

As always at Mann Park, Volunteers Make It Happen! A great crew of members gave of their time to make BC Day another fun time for all the members who attended. Ken Cronin, games coordinator, had help from Tony Numans, Ed Hooper, Craig Carlyle, Alba Boris, and Sandra Burnett. Bowlers played two games with a refreshing ice cream break between. In-the-River game required the jack to be skillfully advanced into “the river” in order to score. In the second game players rotated after every two ends giving each player on the team a turn at every position. Leads skipping? Great fun!

In the River was our first fun game. Erica measures for the score while Ed looks on.

And the winners were:

  • First game winner – team Jim Carter (left)
  • First game, 2nd place – team Tony Numans
  • First game, 3rd place – team Ken Cronin
  • Crying towel – team Bill Wainwright
  • Second game winner – team Tony Numans
  • Second game, 2nd place – team David Tones (right)
  • Second game, 3rd place – team Tom Akam

Following bowling, 80 members enjoyed a BC-themed buffet. A big thanks to Hilary Callihoo and Martha McArthur our kitchen crew leaders. BBQ ninjas Hilary’s daughter Heather and son-in-law Tim, pictured below, joined us from Alberta to grill up the delicious salmon. Martha and Bernice Day cheffed up a tasty blueberry dessert. Also on hand to set up, serve, and clean up were Heidi and Harald Hendess, Sharron Lyons, Bryant and Sharon Avery, Sharon Beard, Gerry McArthur, Linda Palm, and Corrie Brawley. Thanks everyone!

Keeping the thirsty hoard hydrated were Sandra Burnett, Lynne Brauer, Tom Akam, Linda Palm, and Deb Cudmore at the bar.
